Better safe than sorry

October marks National Safe Work Month in Australia. Safety should be of the utmost importance year-round, but Safe Work Month provides the occasion to re-commit to building safe and healthy workplaces for all Australians each year.

Safe Work Australia was established in 2008 to develop national policy and guidance for WHS and workers’ compensation. Since then, there has been a steady decline in the rate of work-related fatalities and workers’ compensation claims.

However, work-related injury and disease still cost the Australian community $61.8 billion in a year.

In the Australian construction industry alone, there are 31 workers killed each year and 1 out of 3 serious workers’ compensation claims are made by construction trades workers.

There is still work to be done.

This year’s theme is “sharing safety knowledge and experience benefits everyone”, so Safe Work Australia has developed a campaign kit and useful resources to help you run a safety initiative in your workplace.

They also want you to share the things you do, both big and small, that make your workplace safer and healthier, with the chance to win $5000.

The team at siteoffice.mobi believes in providing a safe working environment for all construction professionals at all times.

Our construction management software allows for all safety and environmental documentation and permits to be available 24/7, across multiple devices, so that businesses always adhere to and maintain their legislative requirements. Tasks can be created and assigned to ensure that all safety and environmental issues are documented and covered.

We encourage all construction companies to get involved in National Safe Work Month, so that we can work together towards all Australian workers being safe as houses.
